La Casona Cabo San Lucas is the steakhouse inside Villa La Estancia, and beef is the main event. The grill list starts with an 8-oz Angus tenderloin and works up through a dry-aged T-bone, cowboy steak and Kansas City strip to a 24-oz dry-aged porterhouse meant for two.
The seafood side holds its own. Start with pan-seared scallops over cauliflower purée, the tuna tartare with fried plantains, or blue crab cakes with mango-papaya chutney. The lobster fettuccini, with asparagus, cherry tomatoes and green apple, is the dish to order if someone at the table doesn't eat red meat. Can't choose? The Surf & Turf puts a 4-ounce tenderloin and a lobster tail on one plate.
The dining room is classic and quiet: plush seats, warm low lighting, nothing trendy. It suits a date night or an anniversary, and it handles a group dinner just as well. Service is attentive, and the wine list is long, so ask your server for a pairing.
