Los Cabos Corridor Seafood Restaurant

Cocina del Mar at Esperanza

Baja seafood from a wood-fired kitchen on a promontory above Esperanza's two coves, closer to Médano Beach than any other resort dinner.

Our take

Cocina del Mar: Seafood Above the Sea of Cortez

Cocina del Mar is the main restaurant at Esperanza, the Auberge resort at Punta Ballena, kilometer 7 of the Tourist Corridor. It sits on a rocky promontory between the resort's two small beaches, with a lantern-lit bar and an outdoor exhibition kitchen built around a wood-fired oven. For our guests it has one big practical advantage: it's the closest of the serious corridor resort restaurants to Médano Beach, about 15 minutes by car or taxi.

Executive chef Raul Soto cooks coastal Baja seafood. Off the sample dinner menu, start with the amberjack ceviche in coconut dressing and oysters with habanero mignonette, then order the octopus fideuá with squid-ink sauce, grilled red snapper with aji chile beurre blanc, or pan-seared totoaba. The Mac and Shrimp with black truffle is a rich side to share. The resort lists the restaurant on OpenTable's Top 25 Hotel Restaurants in Mexico for 2026.

It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner from 7 AM to 10 PM, and the bar stays open until 11 PM with live music Thursday to Sunday. Go for dinner and arrive at dusk: the restaurant faces southeast over the Sea of Cortez, so you won't watch the sun drop into the water, but the evening light on the cliffs and coves is lovely. A drink at the bar before dinner is part of the experience.

For a special dinner without a 40-minute drive to San José, it's worth it. It's a resort restaurant with resort prices, and the menu posted online has no prices, so expect a big bill. If you want the same kind of night with a more exciting kitchen, Manta at The Cape is even closer to the villa; if you want Mexican rather than seafood, look at COMAL at Chileno Bay.
