Mama's Royal Café

Ask around for breakfast in Cabo and Mama's Royal Café still comes up. It's been feeding visitors on Calle Hidalgo, between Zapata and Madero, for years. It's a humble, colorful place with tables in a garden-like patio, a guitarist playing in the mornings, and a menu that is almost entirely breakfast. From Villa 1 it's about a 12-minute walk: along the marina, then two blocks inland.

The French toast is the house specialty, stuffed and topped with berries, mango or banana. Reviewers also order eggs Benedict, chorizo and eggs, chilaquiles, crêpes, omelets, fruit salad, avocado toast and breakfast burritos, and a few people stay for fish tacos or enchiladas late in the morning. There's a full bar if a mimosa is in order, and vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.

Hours are 7 AM to 1:30 PM every day, so it's breakfast and brunch only. Go before 9 AM in high season to avoid a wait, or late morning on weekdays. Reservations are accepted, which helps with a big group. The patio is open-air with no air conditioning, so summer mornings get warm.

Is it overrated? Not really, but it's not cheap by downtown standards, and one 2026 reviewer found the food under-seasoned. The draw is the atmosphere and the French toast. If you want a cheaper, more local breakfast, Tacos Lalo's does huge plates of chilaquiles a few blocks away; if you want a view, Outpost is on the marina. With a group, order savory plates plus one stuffed French toast for the table. Cards are accepted.
