Médano Beach
Médano Beach faces the bay rather than the open Pacific, so it is one of the few beaches in Los Cabos where swimming is usually safe. Kayaks and stand-up paddleboards can be rented on the beach, and older children can paddle along the shore within sight of the villa. Always check the day's conditions and keep young swimmers close.
Most of Cabo's Pacific-facing beaches, including Divorce Beach at Land's End and the beaches around Todos Santos, have strong surf and are not suitable for children to swim.
A one-hour boat ride to the Arch
Glass-bottom boat tours around Land's End take about an hour, which suits younger children, and they leave from Médano Beach as well as the marina. Kids can watch fish through the hull, see the sea lion colony near El Arco and pass Pelican Rock. Children under 12 are exempt from the protected area's wristband fee.
For a beach stop, a water taxi can drop the family at the calm, bay side of Lover's Beach. There are no services there, so bring water, snacks and shade.
Sea lions and fishing boats at the marina
An afternoon walk along the Cabo San Lucas Marina, about 0.9 miles from the villa, is free and easy with children. Sea lions and pelicans often gather where the fishing boats clean their catch in the afternoon. The waterfront loop takes around 30 minutes at an easy pace, with plenty of places to stop for food.
Winter wildlife: whales and sea turtles
From December to April, humpback whales pass Cabo. Whale-watching tours leave from the marina, and sightings are possible even on short Land's End tours. From about December 10 to February 28, the volunteer group Tortugueros Las Playitas in Todos Santos releases hatchling sea turtles at sunset. The releases are free, and children can watch from the beach. Combine it with a Todos Santos day trip.
