Between the two towns

The Los Cabos Tourist Corridor

The Tourist Corridor is the roughly 32 km (20 mi) of Highway 1 between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo, lined with gated resorts, golf courses and a handful of excellent coves.

Updated September 2026

Gates, golf and a few great coves

The corridor is a four-lane highway with the sea on one side and desert hills on the other. Almost everything is behind a gate: resorts like Montage, Chileno Bay, Grand Velas, Las Ventanas al Paraíso and One&Only Palmilla, plus private residential communities and golf clubs. It's quiet, polished and built around staying put.

Some of the region's best water is here. Santa María and Chileno are sheltered coves with public access, reef fish and calm mornings, and Palmilla near the San José end is protected too. Plenty of other corridor beaches face open swell, so don't assume the beach at your resort is swimmable.

Eating and golf

Dining is mostly inside resorts: Mezcal at Montage, COMAL at Chileno Bay, Cocina de Autor at Grand Velas and Arbol at Las Ventanas. Most of the region's golf courses are here too, including Cabo del Sol and Palmilla.

Getting to The Tourist Corridor from Villa 1

Head east on Highway 1 from Médano. Corridor resorts range from about 10 minutes (near Cabo San Lucas) to 30 minutes (near San José). Stay in the right lane for exits; to reach the ocean side when coming from the other direction you use the retornos (U-turn lanes).
