Seeing El Arco Cabo San Lucas Up Close
El Arco sits at Land's End, the last pile of granite before the peninsula runs out. Locals just call it “The Arch.” It's the picture on half the postcards in town, and it deserves to be.
Millions of years of wind and waves carved it. On one side is the deep, cooler Pacific. On the other is the warmer, bluer Sea of Cortez. Look at the rocks around the base and you'll almost always find sea lions sunning themselves, barking at the boats.
There's no road or trail, so you go by water. Most people take a boat tour or a water taxi, which is the easiest option and takes well under half a day. Kayaks are a good way to go slower and get closer. You can also snorkel or dive nearby, where the rocks attract a lot of fish.
Our advice: go in the morning, when the water is usually calmer and there are fewer boats jockeying for the same photo. Combine it with a stop at Lover's Beach, which is right beside the arch. From Villa 1 on Médano Beach, you can see the rock formations at Land's End down the bay.
