Why it matters here
Día de las Madres is a big deal in Mexico. Schools put on performances, offices give mothers the afternoon off, and families go out for a long lunch or dinner. Mariachis are booked solid, and early on the morning of May 10 some families still wake their mothers with a serenade of "Las Mañanitas". In 2027 it falls on a Monday.
For visitors, the practical effect is simple: local-favorite restaurants are packed from lunchtime on. If you want a table at a Mexican restaurant downtown, like Mi Casa or Maria Corona, book ahead or go early.
Traveling with your own mom?
The US and Canadian Mother's Day falls on the second Sunday of May, which in 2027 is May 9, the day before. That makes the weekend a nice excuse for a multi-generation trip. A long lunch on the sand, a sunset cruise and dinner cooked at the villa by a private chef avoid the restaurant crush entirely.
May is also one of the calmest months in Cabo: dry, warm, low humidity and easy bookings. See the May 2027 events page for the rest of the month.
What to expect around town
Mariachis and trios play in restaurants and plazas all day, and flower sellers set up on street corners. Traffic can be heavier than usual in the afternoon around downtown restaurants and the big supermarkets. It's a friendly, family day, and joining the crowd for a late Mexican lunch shows you local Cabo rather than the tourist version. Go before 1 PM or after 7 PM if you want a table without a long wait, and bring cash for musicians if you ask for a song.
