Nicksan Cabo

Nicksan Cabo is a sushi restaurant in Plaza de la Danza on Boulevard Marina, built on one idea: Japanese technique with Mexican ingredients. In practice that means yellowfin tuna belly on a rice cracker tostada with avocado, habanero and red onion, fresh fish sliced thin under a serrano chile sauce, and gyozas stuffed with scallops and shrimp, finished with a serranito soy sauce. Seafood is sourced locally where possible, and the plating is careful.

The Tuna Tostada and the Mango Roll are the house signatures. After those, try the Sashimi Cilantro, seared fish with green tea salt over a cilantro sauce and a line of chile oil, or the Clear Lobster Roll, lobster tempura with mango and avocado wrapped in soy paper. Anyone who'd rather skip raw fish can order the Misoyaki Fish, an 8-oz grilled filet under spicy miso and mushrooms with steamed rice.

The room is modern, with warm lighting and attentive service, and it works for a quick lunch as well as a longer dinner. Dress is casual. Nicksan opens daily at 11:30 AM, so it's an easy lunch if you're already down at the marina. Sushi fans will find plenty to explore, and if someone at your table is new to it, the tostada and the cooked dishes are a gentle way in.
