Barracuda Cantina

After a session at Cerritos, most surfers end up at Barracuda Cantina, the family-run taco bar Dano and Karla Sánchez Caro opened on the beach in 2017. It got a big bump when Netflix featured it in the fish taco episode of Taco Chronicles (season 2, episode 7), but it still feels like a local beach cantina rather than a tourist stop. The family has recently opened a new bar closer to the shore.

Keep it simple: fish tacos, shrimp tacos, a ceviche to share and the OG margarita. That's what they're known for and what we'd order. Happy hour runs daily from 3 PM to 5 PM with 2-for-1 margaritas and Pacifico, which lines up nicely with the end of an afternoon surf. Friday is reggae night from 5 PM and Sunday has live music from 5 PM; in summer there's a Taco Tuesday.

Cerritos is the one beach on the Pacific side between Cabo San Lucas and Todos Santos where swimming and beginner surfing are generally possible, thanks to the point that shelters it. That makes Barracuda a natural lunch stop on a surf lesson day or on the way to Todos Santos. It's casual, sandy-feet and cheap by Cabo standards. Don't expect a big menu or fast service on a busy Sunday.

We wouldn't drive 55 minutes to an hour from Villa 1 just for tacos, but combined with a morning surf lesson (see our Cerritos surfing guide) or a Todos Santos day trip, it's one of the best-value meals on the west coast. Hierbabuena is 10 minutes up the road if you'd rather have a longer garden lunch.
