Hierbabuena Restaurante y Hortaliza

Lunch under a palapa at the edge of the vegetable beds, with wood-fired pizza and whatever the garden gave that week.

Our take

Hierbabuena: Farm to Table in El Pescadero

Hierbabuena has been cooking from its own organic garden in El Pescadero since 2013, and it's the place people mean when they say the best farm to table food near Todos Santos isn't in Todos Santos at all. You eat under a big palapa right beside the plots where the vegetables grow. The motto is Grow it, Plate it, Eat it, and they mean it: the menu is built around what's ready in the garden, with local fish and a wood oven for pizza.

On the October 2025 menu, look for the chile relleno stuffed with quinoa and vegetables, the roasted carrot and local ricotta ravioli with pesto, and the Punta Lobos pizza topped with smoked fish, named after the fishing beach just up the coast. The grilled catch of the day is priced at market rate and is usually the best thing on the menu if you eat fish. Mains sit around MX$290 to MX$450, tax included, which is a lot less than a farm dinner on the San José side.

Know the rules before you go. Hierbabuena is walk-in only; reservations are taken just for groups of 12 or more, by email, and they can host private events for up to 40. It's a smoke-free property and doesn't allow pets. And it closes for the months of August and September, so plan a visit from October onwards.

At about an hour's drive up the Pacific highway from Villa 1, this is part of a west coast day, not a dinner outing. Pair it with a morning at Cerritos Beach (10 minutes south) or an afternoon in Todos Santos (15 minutes north). Is it worth the drive? For a long, relaxed lunch with kids running between the garden rows, yes. If you're only after a farm meal, Flora Farms is closer, but more expensive and more of a production.
