Shopping in Cabo San Lucas

Shopping in Cabo San Lucas comes in three flavors: the air-conditioned Puerto Paraíso mall on the marina, the designer boutiques of Luxury Avenue next door, and the newer Ánima Village out on the Corridor. Add the craft stalls and silver shops around the marina and downtown, and most of it is within a mile of Villa 1.

What to know

Puerto Paraíso

Puerto Paraíso is the main mall: a waterfront building on the marina with international fashion brands, beachwear, pharmacies, a cinema, a bowling alley and a row of restaurants and bars facing the boats. It opens daily from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and doubles as the town's air-conditioned escape on a hot August afternoon. The mall runs a changing calendar of events, from yoga classes to art shows.

Restaurants inside or on its edge include Ruth's Chris Steak House and the Hard Rock Cafe. In October the Bisbee's weigh station sets up out front on the marina (see our marina page).

Luxury Avenue

Luxury Avenue is the high-end boutique mall beside Puerto Paraíso on the marina. Its operator, which also runs a location in Cancún, features brands such as Hermès, Rolex, Carolina Herrera, Longchamp, MAC and Montblanc. It's quiet and polished, a different world from the stalls outside. The group advertises a money back program returning 9 percent on purchases for international visitors; ask at the desk how it works before you buy anything big.

Ánima Village

Ánima Village is the newer open-air shopping and dining center at Km 10.3 of the Corridor highway, inside Cabo del Sol, about 15 minutes' drive from Médano. Visit Los Cabos describes it as home to more than 80 brands along with restaurants, cafés and wellness activities, and it sets up open-air art between the shops. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. It works best combined with dinner on the Corridor.

Crafts, silver and souvenirs

For souvenirs, head to the craft stalls around the marina and the shops along the downtown streets behind it: embroidered textiles, Talavera-style ceramics, blankets, silver and blown glass. Quality varies from lovely to tourist junk, and prices are negotiable at stalls, less so in shops. Check silver for the .925 stamp, and be wary of "Mexican amber" and very cheap "Cuban" cigars. Cash in pesos usually gets a better price.

Serious art and design shopping is better in San José del Cabo, whose Gallery District holds a Thursday art walk in season.

From Villa 1

Puerto Paraíso and Luxury Avenue are about a mile from Hacienda Beach Club: a 20-minute walk along Médano Beach and the marina boardwalk, or a short taxi if you're carrying bags. For groceries rather than gifts, see our grocery shopping guide.
