Can you swim at Playa Solmar?
No. Solmar faces the open Pacific with a steep beach and heavy shore break, and local guides are blunt that the currents and waves are too strong for swimming. Waves can also surge high up the sand with little warning, so walk above the wet line and keep children close.
Why go
It's the best long beach walk in Cabo San Lucas: wide, open and far less crowded than Médano, with the Land's End rocks at one end and the sun setting straight into the ocean. From December into spring, humpback whales often pass close to this coast. If you want a swim afterward, drive back to Médano in the bay.
Staying in Pedregal, this is your local beach. Divorce Beach is at the far end below the rocks, but the scramble over from here isn't a safe route to Lover's Beach.
Getting to Playa Solmar from Villa 1
About 4 km and 10 minutes by taxi from Villa 1, through downtown to the end of Avenida Solmar. The beach is reached through the resorts there (Grand Solmar, Playa Grande and TerraSol); if you're not a guest, ask at the front desk or go in for a meal.
