Can you swim at Lover's Beach?
Sometimes, on the bay side only. Lover's Beach faces the Sea of Cortez and is sheltered on calm days, when you can swim and snorkel around the rocks. It's still open water with no lifeguards, and swell wraps around Land's End more often than people expect. The port authority closed the beach to swimmers and boat landings on November 26, 2024, because of swell and rip currents, and the Navy has pulled groups of swimmers out of trouble off this beach in recent years.
Walk two minutes across the sand and you're on Divorce Beach, facing the Pacific. Don't swim there at all.
Getting there and the wristband
Water taxis (pangas) work the beach in front of the Médano hotels and the marina. Most loop past El Arco and the sea lion colony before dropping you off. Land's End is inside a federal protected area, and CONANP requires a conservation wristband; many tours include it, so ask. Our Lover's Beach activity page and Land's End boat tours cover the options.
When to go
Go early. By late morning the sand fills with tour groups and the afternoon sun is fierce with no shade. On swell days the landing is rough and captains may refuse to beach the boat, which is the right call.
Getting to Lover's Beach from Villa 1
By boat only. Walk down to the waterline in front of Villa 1 and take a panga water taxi or glass-bottom boat across the bay, about 10 minutes. On a flat morning you can paddle a kayak or SUP across. Agree the pickup time with your captain before they leave you; boats get scarce late in the afternoon.
What to bring
- Water and snacks (there's nothing to buy)
- Shade or a hat; there's no cover
- Snorkel gear for the rocks on the bay side
- Water shoes for landing on the sand
