Watching the pangas
The local cooperative launches and lands its boats right off the beach, timing the waves to run the pangas up onto the sand. It's a great thing to watch, and when the boats come in you can often buy fish straight from the crews. No one publishes a schedule; late afternoon is the usual time.
Swimming and walking
The rocky point gives the beach a little shelter, and some guides call it one of the better swimming spots around Todos Santos; others say the surf makes it risky. Our take: only on a calm day, close in, and well away from boats landing through the surf. There's no lifeguard.
A trail climbs the headland and continues along the coast toward Playa Las Palmas, with big Pacific views and, in winter, a good chance of spotting whales. For the town itself, see Todos Santos.
Getting to Punta Lobos from Villa 1
About 78 km from Villa 1: Highway 19 north to about km 54, just south of Todos Santos town, then a sandy road to the coast. Bear left for Punta Lobos (right goes to another beach club). Hotel San Cristóbal sits beside the beach.
