Why 2026 is a good year
The Geminids are one of the strongest meteor showers of the year, and the American Meteor Society lists the 2026 peak as December 13 to 14, with activity from December 4 to 17. The moon will be a 15 percent crescent, so moonlight won't wash out the fainter meteors. December nights in Cabo are also usually dry and clear.
Where to watch near Cabo
The town glows, and Médano Beach faces the lights of the marina, so it's fine for the brightest meteors but not much more. For a real sky, drive north on Highway 19 toward Todos Santos. The Pacific beaches around Migriño and Cerritos are 35 to 50 minutes from the villa and much darker. Go with a group, tell someone your plan, and park only where others park; some beach access roads are sandy. Our Cerritos surfing page covers the drive.
If you'd rather stay put, the rooftop and pool deck at the villa work after midnight, when the radiant is high and the town is quieter. Look away from the marina toward the east.
- Best time: after 10 PM, strongest in the hours before dawn
- Give your eyes 20 minutes to adjust; no phone screens
- Bring a blanket, a jacket (lows around 56°F / 14°C in December) and something hot to drink
Make a night of it
Mid-December is also the start of whale season and the run-up to Christmas, so plan a quiet night before the holiday crowds arrive. Check our December weather notes before you pack.
Getting there and back safely
Highway 19 north of Cabo is a good four-lane road, but it's dark, and cattle occasionally wander onto rural stretches at night. Drive slowly, don't stop on the shoulder, and pick a beach with a proper parking area. If a late drive doesn't appeal, a taxi or private driver can wait for you; agree the price in advance. Plan on getting back to the villa around 2 AM. On the way out, grab dinner at Baja Brewing on Médano so you aren't driving hungry.
