Our take

Funky Geisha: A Night Out on the Sand

Funky Geisha is the Los Cabos branch of the Thai-Japanese concept from Grupo RosaNegra, the Tulum-born group behind RosaNegra and Tamara Beach Club. It sits right on Médano Beach inside the ME Cabo hotel, about a ten-minute walk north of Villa 1 along the sand. The setting is part jungle, part beach house, with low lighting, a DJ, and tables that look straight at the Arch as the sun goes down.

On the plate it's Thai and Japanese side by side: pad thai, curries, sashimi and nigiri, tempura vegetables, donburi bowls and robata dishes such as salmon glazed with oyster sauce and apple curry, and lacquered duck in plum sauce. Reviewers keep coming back to the Panang curry, Mongolian beef, drunken noodles, lettuce wraps and tom kha gai. There are good vegan and gluten-free options, which is useful for mixed groups.

Expect a production. On some nights there's live music on top of the DJ, and fireworks are not unusual. It's adults only (18+), so it's one for couples and friends, not for the kids. The main complaint in recent reviews is value: portions and protein are on the small side for the price, and the bill can take a while at the end of the night. Book through the RosaNegra booking page, especially for sunset tables on weekends, and ask for a table near the sand.

Listing sites (not the official page) give hours of 1 PM to 11 PM, midnight on Friday and Saturday, closed Wednesdays, so check before you go. From the villa, walk up the beach or take a two-minute taxi to ME Cabo's entrance on the hotel zone road. Pair it with drinks at the Rooftop 360 beforehand, or finish the night across the street at Chamuyo if someone is still hungry.
