Los Tamarindos
An organic farm and restaurant in a 19th-century farmhouse, where the fields below decide the menu.
Los Tamarindos: Lunch in an Old Baja Farmhouse
Los Tamarindos occupies a 19th-century farmhouse in Ánimas Bajas, about a mile inland from the Sea of Cortez, on land that once grew sugar cane. Chef and owner Enrique Silva came to Los Cabos from Sonora in 1990 with a degree in agricultural engineering, and the farm he built now supplies the kitchen: what is served depends on what is in season in the fields below the dining terrace.
Local fishermen bring the fish. Cornish hens and quail are raised on the property, and the pasta is rolled by hand every day. Prices are the pleasant surprise: on the lunch menu, ceviche and shrimp aguachile run around MX$180, and handmade pasta or cochinita pibil around MX$280, well below most destination restaurants in Los Cabos. You can also book a hands-on cooking class, a coffee masterclass or a farm tour, and there are a few palapa-roofed bungalows if you want to stay.
Call before you go. The website's hours page isn't reliable right now, so confirm on OpenTable or by phone that the kitchen is open. It's about 40 minutes by taxi or car from Médano Beach, on the same valley road as Flora Farms and Acre, which makes it easy to fold into a farm-to-table day.
