What the East Cape Offshore is
Bisbee's calls this the official kick-off to its tournament season, and the purse regularly tops US$1.6 million. Base entry was US$1,500 per team in 2026. It's based at the Buena Vista Oceanfront & Thermal Resort, and the weigh station is right on the beach.
The East Cape feels completely different from Cabo San Lucas: small towns, pangas pulled up on the sand, and the Sea of Cortez instead of the Pacific. That's a big part of the charm.
How the week runs
Going by the 2026 schedule (July 28 to August 1): registration and the captains meeting fall on the Tuesday with a welcome reception, then three fishing days Wednesday to Friday with a 6:30 AM shotgun start and lines out by 4 PM. The beach weigh station opens 2 to 9 PM, and the awards party is on the beach Saturday evening. Expect 2027 to follow the same pattern, around July 27 to 31, once Bisbee's confirms.
Who it suits
Serious anglers and teams, mainly. It's a long drive for a casual look at the weigh-ins, though if you're already doing an East Cape trip (say, combined with a Cabo Pulmo day trip), stopping by the beach scale in the evening is fun.
Late July is hot, humid and in hurricane season, so watch the forecast. The upside is warm blue water and good billfish action.
The drive to Buena Vista
Buena Vista is roughly two hours by car from Médano Beach via San José del Cabo and Highway 1 north. You'll want a rental car; see our getting around Cabo guide. Teams that fish Cabo too often base themselves on the East Cape for the week and head back to Cabo afterward for the fall events.
If you'd rather keep your base in Cabo, the fall Bisbee's events come to you: the Los Cabos Offshore and the Black & Blue both weigh fish a short walk from Médano Beach every October.
