What to expect
Thanksgiving isn't a Mexican holiday, but so many American and Canadian families come for the long weekend that it's a peak week here. Many hotel and tourist restaurants put on a turkey dinner or a set holiday menu. Those menus and prices are usually announced in early November, so we don't list them until they're published; call ahead and book as soon as they are.
The weather is a big part of the appeal. Late November averages around 86°F in the day with warm water and low humidity, and hurricane season ends November 30. See our weather by month guide.
Dinner at the villa
For a family group, the easiest Thanksgiving is often at home. Villa 1's kitchen is fully equipped, and a private chef can cook the whole meal while you stay by the pool. Order a turkey early: supermarkets in Cabo stock them for the week, but they go fast. Our grocery guide covers where to shop near Médano.
If you'd rather go out, the Hacienda's own Cocina y Cantina is a few steps away, and the marina restaurants are a short walk.
Football and the rest of the weekend
Sports bars around the marina, such as Golden Legends, show the NFL games; get there early for a table. The weekend also falls in the middle of sea turtle release season, which is a good low-key outing with kids.
Planning the long weekend
Book flights early, since many US flights to SJD fill for the holiday. Restaurant set menus usually sell out by the week before, and boats for fishing or a sunset sail get booked for Friday and Saturday. If you want a quieter day, the Friday after Thanksgiving is a good one for a drive to the East Cape or Cabo Pulmo while the town is busy.
