Punta Ballena Resort Spa

The Spa at Esperanza

The Spa at Esperanza is the closest of the big Corridor resort spas to Villa 1, at Punta Ballena about 15 minutes up the highway. It is smaller and quieter than the mega-spas further east, built around a palapa roof and desert gardens, with massage cabanas right above the water.

What to know

Pasaje de Agua

The thing to book here is the Pasaje de Agua, a 30-minute hydrotherapy circuit that Esperanza bases on the temazcal, the traditional Mexican steam house. It is short enough to add before a massage without taking your whole afternoon.

The spa's menu is organized around the Medicine Wheel, an old symbol of balance, so you will see treatments grouped by theme rather than a plain list of massages and facials. Ask the front desk to point you to a straightforward massage if the concepts are not your thing.

Oceanfront cabana massages

Esperanza sits on a rocky point between two coves, and it offers massages in seaside cabanas where you hear the waves the whole time. It's the best way to use this spa, and the cabanas book up before anything else, especially at sunset. If you are celebrating something, request a cabana when you call rather than a standard treatment room.

The resort also runs multi-day Wellness Journeys and morning movement classes, including sunrise yoga, mainly aimed at hotel guests.

Booking, prices and outside guests

Book through the spa directly on +52 624 145 6406. Esperanza does not publish treatment prices online or state whether non-hotel guests can book, so ask both when you call. In our experience with Auberge resorts, outside bookings depend on hotel occupancy, which means weekdays outside the December to April peak are your best chance.

Getting there from Villa 1

Esperanza is at Punta Ballena on the Transpeninsular Highway, about 7 km out of Cabo San Lucas. From Médano Beach a taxi or Uber takes around 15 minutes. Give your reservation name at the gate.

Pair it with a morning at Santa María and Chileno bays a little further along the Corridor, or come back to town for dinner at Cocina y Cantina at Hacienda Beach Club. For taxis and drivers, see our getting around guide.

Who it suits

We send couples here who want a quiet spa close to town, and anyone who would rather hear surf than piped music during a massage. If you'd rather not get in a car at all, the Hacienda Beach Club spa is a few steps from the villa.
