Pick your dates: spring break and Semana Santa
The biggest variable is when you go. Mid to late March is US spring break, when Médano Beach near the marina and the downtown clubs are at their loudest and most crowded. Some groups want exactly that; others find it hard to book a table or a boat. Semana Santa, the Easter holiday week when Mexican families fill the beaches, often overlaps or follows it; in 2027 Easter Sunday falls on March 28, so the two coincide.
For the party without the crush, the first half of March, late April and May are warm, dry and far easier to book. Summer and early fall are hot and humid and overlap the peak of hurricane season, so boat days are more likely to be cancelled.
Party boats and private charters
Most groups spend at least one afternoon on the water. The shared option is a party cruise from the marina: Pez Gato, for example, runs a two-hour Sunset Sail Party Cruise that is restricted to guests 18 and over, alongside calmer sunset and snorkel sails. Shared boats are cheap per head and sociable, but you are on someone else's playlist and schedule.
For eight people, a private boat is often better value than it first looks, because the cost is split and you choose the route, the music and the stop at Lover's Beach or Santa María Bay. Our private yacht charter guide covers boat sizes and what is usually included, and there is a separate page on sunset cruises. Drinking on a licensed charter or tour boat is normal and legal; drinking on a public street afterwards is not.
Beach clubs on Médano
Médano Beach is the day-party beach. The sand is public, but the clubs rent loungers and daybeds and serve drinks legally on their section of the beach. Mango Deck is the big, loud one with live music and emcee-led contests; SUR Beach House is more polished, with loungers that come with a minimum spend; and Taboo Beach Club is an adults-only (18+) club with a resident DJ, cabanas and daybeds that is popular for bachelorette parties. Groups of eight should reserve on weekends and anywhere near spring break.
Médano is also the swimmable beach, which matters when the group has been drinking. Stay inside the roped swim zones, away from jet ski traffic, and do not swim after dark. Our Médano Beach guide explains the flags and the water taxis.
Nightlife within walking distance
Downtown Cabo San Lucas is compact. From Hacienda Beach Club the marina is about 0.9 miles away and the main bar streets are just beyond it, so most groups walk there and take a taxi or Uber back. Cabo Wabo Cantina is the live-music option, El Squid Roe is the three-level dance-on-the-tables bar, and Mandala is the club with a dress code (no caps, swimwear, flip-flops or tank tops) and VIP tables. The full rundown, including what has closed recently, is in our Cabo San Lucas nightlife guide.
The rules that catch groups out
Most trouble on group trips in Cabo comes from a handful of rules that are enforced more strictly than visitors expect. Local police respond quickly to public drunkenness, and a night in the holding cells ends with a fine to get out.
- Drinking in public streets and open containers outside bars and restaurants are not allowed; finish your drink before you leave.
- Bringing your own alcohol to a public beach can lead to confiscation or a fine. Drinks bought from a licensed beach club on its own area are fine.
- Public intoxication is an offense in itself, even without a drink in hand.
- Smoking is banned in public spaces, including beaches, parks and plazas, under Mexico's 2023 tobacco rules.
- Public urination is treated as an arrestable offense.
- All recreational drugs are illegal for tourists, and buying on the street is a real legal and safety risk.
- The legal drinking age in Mexico is 18.
- Resorts can remove guests for fighting or aggressive behavior without a refund.
Resort etiquette and noise
Hacienda Beach Club is a residential resort with families and couples as neighbors, not a party hotel. A villa gives a group privacy that a block of hotel rooms cannot, but sound carries over a pool deck at night. Keep music at a sensible level late in the evening, keep glass away from the pool, and ask us about the resort's house rules before you arrive; the booking terms at our terms and conditions apply to every stay.
If you are planning something bigger than a dinner for the group, such as a welcome party with outside guests or a decorated setup, tell us early. Villa 1 sleeps a maximum of eight guests overnight, and events need to be agreed in advance. Our page on villa celebrations covers what is possible.
Logistics for eight people
Arrivals are the first test. Uber cannot pick up at Los Cabos airport, and eight people with luggage will not fit in one taxi, so book a private van in advance. Villa 1 can arrange private airport transfers on request, and our airport transfer guide explains the arrivals hall. In town, Uber works normally and many groups simply walk.
Day activities work best when everyone can join. ATV and UTV tours usually require drivers to be 18 or older with a valid license, and adventure parks such as Wild Canyon set weight limits on zip lines and bungee. For the morning after, a stocked kitchen and a private chef are easier than organizing breakfast out for eight.
Why a four-bedroom villa suits a group
For a group of eight, the maths of a villa is simple: four bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms mean no queue for showers before a night out, and one shared living space means the group actually spends time together. Villa 1 has a private infinity pool and hot tub looking out at Land's End, a pool table, a Sonos system, an outdoor kitchen with a BBQ and a full indoor kitchen. A golf cart is included for getting around the resort, and there is private beach access to Médano.
Daily housekeeping and a 24/7 concierge take care of the resets after a long night, and a private chef can be booked on request if the group wants a proper dinner at home before going out. Dates and rates for your group are on the Villa 1 booking page, and questions can come to us through the contact page.
