What IRONMAN 70.3 Los Cabos is
It's a 70.3-mile triathlon: 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike, 13.1-mile run. IRONMAN describes the course as an ocean swim, a rolling bike and a flat run, and the race offers age-group qualifying slots for the 70.3 World Championship through its qualification system.
IRONMAN hasn't published the full 2027 athlete guide yet, so we're not listing transition locations or course routes here. Check the official page for the course map, cut-off times and registration fees before you book.
Who it's for
Triathletes wanting a warm-weather spring race, and the friends and families who come to cheer. April is a lovely month in Cabo, dry and warm with cooler mornings, and spring break crowds have usually thinned by then. Our weather by month guide has the details.
If you're coming as a group of racers and supporters, a villa with a kitchen makes race-week eating much easier. Our guests often use a private chef for the pre-race pasta night and the post-race celebration.
Practical tips
Arrive a few days early to shake out the travel and get used to the heat. Bike boxes fit in larger SUVs and vans; book transfers that can handle them. See our SJD airport to Médano Beach guide for transfer options.
Race-day road closures along the bike course are normal for IRONMAN events, so supporters should plan viewing spots and routes once the course map is out.
Race week is also a good excuse to stay a few extra days. The tail end of whale season can still overlap with early April, and a recovery day on the sand at Médano Beach, with calm water for an easy swim, does tired legs a lot of good.
For supporters
Triathlon is a long day to watch. The swim start is early, the bike leg takes most competitors around three hours, and the run finishes into the midday heat. Supporters usually see their athlete at the swim exit, once or twice on the bike course if the layout allows, and at the run and finish. Bring shade, water and snacks, and keep phones charged for athlete tracking in the IRONMAN app.
