What downtown is like
The center of town is Plaza Amelia Wilkes, a small square with a gazebo and the local natural history museum on one side. From there the streets fill with small restaurants, taquerías, souvenir shops, pharmacies and money changers. Closer to the marina is the nightlife strip, where places like Cabo Wabo Cantina and El Squid Roe run late.
It's dense, lively and not scenic in the resort sense. There's no beach and the streets are busy with traffic. Most visitors, us included, treat downtown as the place to eat and go out, and sleep somewhere quieter.
Where to eat downtown
This is where to find the cheap, good food. Tacos Guss and Taquería El Paisa for late tacos, Los Claros for fish tacos, El Pollo de Oro for grilled chicken. For a sit-down Mexican dinner, Mi Casa and Maria Corona are both classics.
Getting to Downtown Cabo San Lucas from Villa 1
Walk or take a short taxi. Downtown starts just behind the marina, about 20 to 25 minutes on foot from Villa 1. After a late night, a taxi back is a few minutes; agree the fare before you get in, or use Uber.
