January in Cabo

January 2027 in Los Cabos

January is about whales. Humpbacks are in the bay in good numbers and you can often see spouts from the villa terrace, and on January 20 the gray whale season opens at San Ignacio Lagoon, up the Baja coast, for the close encounters that make that long trip worth it. Whale sharks are usually in the Bay of La Paz by now too, a day trip away.

On January 6, Día de Reyes, families share rosca de reyes, the ring-shaped sweet bread with a tiny figure baked inside. Whoever finds it hosts tamales on February 2, Día de la Candelaria. Every Thursday evening the San José del Cabo art walk fills the gallery district.

It's the coolest month: sunny days near 79°F, nights in the 50s, and water that feels brisk first thing in the morning. After the first week, it's one of the calmer months for restaurants and tours.

Villa 1 in January 2027

Mid to late January has some of the best whale watching of the season with fewer people than the holidays. The hot tub at Villa 1 earns its keep on cool evenings.
