What the San José fiestas are
San José del Cabo grew from the mission founded in 1730, and its patron is San José, whose feast is March 19. The fiestas mix the religious side (services at the parish on the plaza) with a full town fair: a queen coronation, a float contest, poetry and cultural contests, regional food, and free concerts on Plaza Antonio Mijares. The municipality reported more than 250,000 attendees over the 2026 fiestas.
Dates for 2027 had not been announced when we checked. March 19, 2027 is a Friday, so expect the fiestas to run across that week and weekend.
Who should go
Go if you like a big, friendly Mexican town fair. The plaza is lovely early in the evening with kids, and packed on concert nights. If you prefer the art galleries and quiet dinners of San José, come another week; the historic center is noisy and hard to park during the fiestas.
Getting there from Médano Beach
San José del Cabo is 30 to 40 minutes by car from our villa, longer at rush hour. A taxi or pre-booked driver is easiest because parking near the plaza disappears on fiesta nights. Our Cabo San Lucas vs San José del Cabo guide explains the difference between the two towns.
Eat before the concerts at Mi Cocina at Casa Natalia, right on the plaza, or plan a farm dinner at Flora's Field Kitchen. If you are there on a Thursday, the San José del Cabo art walk season is still on in March.
What to bring
Cash for food and rides, comfortable shoes, and a light layer; March evenings are mild but breezy. Concert nights draw big crowds, so agree on a meeting point with your group. If you are staying with us that week, a late afternoon in San José with dinner on the plaza and an early exit before the main concert lets you see it without the crush.
