Romantic Things to Do in Cabo for Couples and Honeymooners

Cabo's spring break reputation hides how good it is for couples. The romantic things to do in Cabo mostly come down to timing: being on the water at the right hour, booking the right table, and avoiding the crowds. Here's what's worth doing as a couple, and how to do it well.

Lover's Beach, early

Lover's Beach sits at Land's End beside El Arco and can only be reached by boat. By late morning it's busy. Take the first water taxi from Médano or the marina, ask to be dropped off, and agree a pickup an hour or two later. Walk across to Divorce Beach on the Pacific side for the view, but don't swim there; the surf is dangerous.

A sunset sail around El Arco

Most of Cabo San Lucas faces the bay, so the sun sets behind land. The way to see it drop into the ocean is from a boat that rounds the arch into the Pacific. Shared sunset cruises range from quiet dinner sails to party boats, so read the description. For a proposal or anniversary, a small private charter is worth the cost.

Dinner with a view

The special-occasion tables in Cabo, all worth reserving well ahead:

  • [Sunset Monalisa](/restaurants/sunset-monalisa-cabo-san-lucas/): Mediterranean cooking on a cliff above the Sea of Cortez, with a famous view of the Arch at sunset.
  • [El Farallón](/restaurants/el-farallon-waldorf-astoria-pedregal/): seafood on terraces cut into the Pedregal cliffs, with Pacific waves breaking below.
  • [Manta](/restaurants/manta-the-cape-cabo/): Enrique Olvera's restaurant at The Cape, with an Arch view.
  • [Cocina de Autor](/restaurants/cocina-de-autor-grand-velas-los-cabos/): an adults-only tasting menu at Grand Velas, and the MICHELIN-starred restaurant of Los Cabos.
  • [Edith's](/restaurants/ediths-restaurant-cabo-san-lucas/): a candlelit palapa above Médano Beach, in walking distance of the marina.

Flora Farms and the foothills

Dinner at Flora Farms, among the mango trees of a working organic farm above San José del Cabo, is a favorite for couples. Book early and go for sunset. Nearby Acre is a palm-grove restaurant and cocktail bar in the same foothills. Combine either with the Thursday Art Walk in San José from November to June.

A spa day for two

Couples massages are offered at most resort spas in Los Cabos, and in-villa massages can be arranged too. At Hacienda Beach Club, the spa and wellness center is on site; see spa and wellness. Book for the afternoon after a morning on the water, when the heat makes staying inside appealing.

Whales, horses and quiet mornings

From mid-December to mid-April, a small-boat whale watching trip puts you low on the water, and humpbacks breach close enough to hear. Year round, horseback riding along the beach and through the desert at sunset is a classic. For something low-key, walk Médano at 7 a.m., when it's almost empty and the arch is lit by the morning sun.

Honeymoon timing and practicalities

November to April is the most reliable weather. Peak weeks (Christmas, New Year's, spring break) are crowded; late April, May and late October are warm and calmer. If you're marrying in Cabo, see weddings and celebrations in Cabo for the legal side.

For privacy, many couples choose a villa over a resort room: your own pool, a hot tub under the stars, and a private chef dinner on the terrace. Villa 1 is larger than two people need, but some couples book it for a honeymoon with family or for a vow renewal; see our celebration villa page.

Low-key date ideas

Not every romantic evening needs a tasting menu. Some of our favorites: a picnic of tacos on the villa terrace as the Land's End rocks turn pink; a walk along the marina boardwalk after dark with an ice cream; a drink at a rooftop bar on Médano, such as Baja Brewing; and a morning kayak along the coast toward the arch, before the boats start (see kayak tour to El Arco).

In winter, clear desert skies make for good stargazing away from town. In summer, a late swim in a warm, calm bay is hard to beat. Stay inside the swim zones and never swim alone after dark.

Planning a proposal

The classic Cabo proposal settings are Lover's Beach early in the morning, the bow of a private boat at the arch, or a cliffside dinner table at sunset. For a boat proposal, tell the charter company in advance; many will arrange flowers, champagne and a photographer. For a restaurant, ask for a specific table when you book and confirm the sunset time for your date. Have a backup plan if the wind is up.

When to avoid the crowds

Cabo is busiest at spring break, Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's. For a quieter, more romantic trip, aim for late April to early June or late October to mid-December. The weather is warm and dry in both windows, rates are lower, and you can get tables and boats at short notice. Midweek is quieter than weekends all year. If you must travel at peak times, book the key experiences (boat, dinner, spa) before you land.
